Fleece Blankets

Fleece is a very common type of fabric and can be found in everything from winter gloves to sweatshirts and vests, or even fleece blankets. Fleece blankets are the perfect choice for anyone hoping to keep warm without having to spend a fortune on a down or electric blanket. Fleece has the added benefit of being both warm and inexpensive.

Fleece refers to two different kinds of fabric: alpaca wool and synthetic wool made from PET. Genuine animal fleece is pricier than its synthetic counter part, but synthetic fleece (also called "polar fleece") is just as good. Fleece is extremely soft and very comfortable. It's warm and insulating, but still lightweight. It also draws moisture away from the body, which is why it's so desirable during the winter. Unlike other blankets, a fleece blanket will pull perspiration away from the body, keeping you from feeling wet and overheated.

Fleece blankets are available in an innumerable amount of prints, everything from animal prints to sporting teams or even plane, solid colors. Fleece blankets can also be used during the summer. Because fleece draws away moisture from the body, you can sleep underneath a fleece blanket in the hot month of July and not sweat to death. The only downfall to fleece blankets is that they can have a static charge.

Fleece is extremely easy to care for. It can be both machine washed and dried, although air drying is preferred, since it preserve the softness without causing "fuzzies." Cold water is also the best temperature for washing, since it will preserve the softness of the fabric without causing static cling. Fabric softener affects its insulating abilities, so it's recommended that you avoid using fabric softener if you wish to maintain the fleece blanket.

Fleece is softer than flannel and environmentally friendly, and can be found almost anywhere. No-sew Fleece blankets are also extremely easy to make. All you need is a few yards of fleece from a fabric store, and the ability to tie knots. Simply cut strips along the ends of the fleece and tie them into knots to prevent fraying, and you have yourself a home-made, no-sew fleece blanket. With fleece available in so many different prints to serve so many different personalities, it is the best blanket for individuals of any age.
